Obituary
Charles William Riddiford
The death occurred on Friday last following a long and painful illness of an exceptionally well known and highly esteemed residence of Wairoa in the person of Charles Edward Riddiford, in his 77th year. Born on the West Coast of the South Island, he was a member of the well known Riddiford family of that district and at an early age took up sawmilling, being for some time employed in mills around Greymouth. Some 30 years ago he came to settle in Wairoa and resided here ever since. He was keenly interested in hockey and for a number of terms filled the position of president to the local association, whilst he also displayed enthusiasm for Rugby. Mr Riddiford was noted for his sterling qualities and his integrity his word at all times being his bond, and his passing will be deeply regretted by a large number of friends who had the privilege of his acquaintance. To Mrs Riddiford, and the members of their family Annie, William, Agnes, Charles, Sarah, Rose and Rene will be extended the sincere sympathy of all in their sad bereavement.
The interment took place at Wairoa on Saturday last, Rev. Canon A. R. H. Morris conducting the service at St. Paul's Anglican Church, whilst Bro. Carter of the Druids' Lodge, (deceased having been a very active member for a number of years) recited the Druidic ritual.
