Everything Turned Upside Down
Commerce House
Geraldine,
Transformed into a Gigantic Draper Bazaar
-
A never-ending stream of satisfied customers poured in and out of the premises on our Great Opening Day last Wednesday. Shop packed to the doors, not one murmur of dissatisfaction, everyone delighted beyond their most sanguine? expectations.
The name of PYE sweeter than ever.
Circulars read and re-read. Customer came prepared with lists carefully dissected. Nothing advertised but what they were able to obtain. Cash takings went up by leaps and bounds. If you doubt our word, ask the banker. Never such a legitimate sale ever held in South Canterbury. Record takings for Commerce House.
Write and procure 4-page Price List Circular for Particulars.
Another Sample Poem:
To J. S. Pye, Draper and Clothier, Commerce House, Geraldine
1.
To-day a Circular, four-page
Was put into my hand,
A sale - the grandest of the age -
Was on its pages planned
2.
Upon the introduction page
Our friend proceeds to say,
He has some thousand pounds in goods
He means to give away !
3.
And on pages two and three
And four, we find displayed
In figures startling more and more,
Reductions he had made
4.
In blankets, calicoes, and skirts,
And carpets for your floor,
Muslins and flannels, ties and shirts,
Coat, boots, and hats galore.
5.
Hundreds of bargains, rich and rare
To suit your every whim,
No matter what you need to wear,
All may be brought from him.
6.
And when you call round at his shop,
T'will pay you passing well,
If you've the cash with which to buy,
He has the goods to sell.
7.
If once you buy from J. S. Pye,
His goods of far renown.
To commerce House you'll always his,
The cheapest house in town !!
The Great Re-construction Sale Is now proceeding.

Obituary
We much regret to have to record the death of Mr John Shannon Pye, which occurred at the residence of his mother, Mrs R. Meechan, Ashburton, yesterday afternoon. The life of the late Mr Pye is well-known to most of our readers. He was a Geraldine boy, being the only son of the late Mr J. W. Pye, of Commerce House, and on the death of his father the business was carried on, on his behalf, but was ultimately sold, and he then joined the staff of the Canterbury Farmers Co-Operative Assn., a position he held until failing health obliged him to resign it a short time ago. He had a kindly generous nature, and was respected by all who knew him. He had musical tastes, and his services were always freely given in any cause that would benefit the town. He has been cut off in the prime of his life, for he was only 29 years of age, and he leaves a widow and two young children and a mother to mourn their loss, and for them deep sympathy will be felt by the whole community. His funeral will leave his late residence at Geraldine tomorrow afternoon for the Geraldine Cemetery
