The prizes were presented by Mr. Thomas Mason on the 17th inst., prefaced by a suitable address to the children. After the prize distribution, tea was provided by the School Committee in Mr. Mason's grounds, and races and sports were indulged in. The following is the prize list :—

Windley, Levin), Hinemoa (Mrs H. Tracy, Auckland), Sylvia (Mrs J. Estcourt, Hastings), Hamilton (Napier), Cyril (Havelock North), Wilfred (Kaikohe) and Roger (Bay View). Aged 83 years.
A service will be held in St Matthew's Church, Hastings, on Friday, November 16, 1962, at 2 pm, the funeral the leaving for the Hastings Crematorium - Tong & Peryer Ltd, Funeral Directors, Hastings

Attended Manningham Grammar School in England

Returned to New Zealand in 1871 abroad the Queen Bee with his brothers George and Francis. Assumed he went to Otaki with his brother Francis, as he was aged 16 and shows up employed in a New Zealand survey party. In 1879 William took the position as assistant at Pencarrow Lighthouse. Five year later, the family moved to the Portland Island lighthouse off Mahia. After three years there the family again moved to Manakau, where the family brought a dairy farm.
