Waterloo Hotel, Kai Warra
James McIntosh, usually known by the name of Byron, begs most respectfully to inform his Friends and the Public, that the license of the above Hotel has been transferred from William Matson Whitewood to himself, and he trusts that by civility and constant attention to his business, he will merit that liberal share of public patronage with which the house has been hitherto favoured.
    N.B. Wines, Beers, and Spirits, &c., of the best description.

The Evening Post 26th April 1877 shows
To Be Let, for a term of years, that desirable Dairy Farm, formerly the property of Mr. W. M. Whitewood, being section No. 53, Taita, containing 29 acres (more or less), sub-divided into 5 paddocks, fenced and all laid down in English grasses, the pasture being unequalled by any in the Hutt. There is a good seven-roomed house, stable, cowshed, and other out-buildings; also a garden and orchard, well stocked with fruit trees.
