John's second wife Isabel Cornish nee McAdie was the sister of his locomotive fireman and best friend, Robert James McAdie, and she moved from the South Island to live with her brother and his family after the death of both her husband and child in the same year. Five years after they were married she sold her farm and John sold the family home in Palmerston North and they purchased the farm at Whakarongo.

St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Palmerston North, was the scene of a charming evening wedding on February 24, when May Isabel, eldest daughter of Mrs I. A. Pye, of Palmerston North, and the late Mr John Pye (formerly of Whakarongo), was married to Ian Frederick, second son of Mr and Mrs F. Lewer, of Herne Bay, Auckland. The ceremony was preformed by Rev. J. Hubbard, M.A., B.D., and Mr A. J. Graham presided at the organ. The bride was escorted by her uncle, Mr R. J. McAdie, of Wanganui, and she looked very charming. Her frock was of magnolia tinted satin, the square neck being defined on either side with metal filigree clips, the long sleeves fitting tightly to the elbow with fullness to the wrists. A gold girdle encircled the waist, and gold shoes peeped from under the hem of the grown. Arranged to the head with a halo effect, the veil (lent by the bride's sister, Mrs W. M. Jonson, of Matangi) fell in soft folds. The bride carried an armlet of flame coloured dahlias tied with gold ribbon. In attendance as bridesmaids were Miss F. McGowan, of Palmerston North (chief) and Miss M. McAdie, of Wanganui (cousin of the bride.) They made pretty pictures in frocks of lemon and gold georgette, with which they wore picture hats of net trimmed with gold ribbon and primroses, and they carried armlets of autumn tinted gladioli. The sleeves of the frocks were ruched at the shoulder and were made in bell fashion slit inside, metal clips ornamented the neck at the back. The waists were ruched in front and panelled skirts were slightly trained. Two little flower girls, Noeline and Joyce Lilley, of Morrinsville (nieces of the bridegroom), looked dainty in frocks of lemon georgette, their full skirts frilled at the bottom, being gathered to the waist and fichu collars giving a pretty effect. Posies of pom-pom dahlias were worn in their hair and they carried baskets of lemon dahlias. Mr W. Crawford of Te Aroha, was bestman, and Mr R. Mitchell, of Ashhurst, groomsman. When the bride and bridegroom left the church, the bride was presented with a horseshoe by Lance Payne, of Glen Orona. A reception was later held at Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame's, where the colour scheme was lemon and gold. Mrs Pye received the guests smartly attired in navy georgette and lace, with a gold clip and a navy hat, and on her shoulder she had pinned a spray of red dahlias. The bridegroom's mother had chosen violet georgette, with hat and accessories to tone and she wore a shoulder spray of violet dahlias. When Mr and Mrs Lewer later left on their honeymoon, the latter looked most attractive in a Phoenix blue ensemble, comprising a frock and short swing-back coat. Red accessories provided a pleasing contrast. They will make their future home at Waitoa, Waikato. Numerous presents were received by the young couple, including a china tea set and silver teaspoons from the firm of Messrs Collinson and Cunninghame's, where the bride was formerly employed. The bride's gift to the groom was a travelling rug, the bridegroom's gift to the bride being a skunk fur stole. Lewer May Isabel - On November 28, 1991, peacefully at Tauranga Hospital, in her 81st year. Beloved mother and mother in law of Roselyn and Ron Lipinski (Tauranga), John and Lynne (Western Australia), nana of Donna, Murray and Debra, Paul (England), Wayne, Sean and Tara (Western Australia). Her funeral service will be held at St Peters Presbyterian Church, Springs St, Tauranga, on Tuesday, December 3, 1991, at 11am, followed by private cremation.
