Returned to New Zealand in 1871 abroad the Queen Bee with his brothers George and William.

Settled at Otaki and set up as a surveyor, due to being befriended by a Mr D'Ath, on the voyage to New Zealand. He worked on the survey of Palmerston North and also did survey work in Wellington and Marlborough. He married Catherine D'Ath, daughter of his benefactor Mr D'Ath. He turned Catholic which caused repercussions amongst his family. In later years he developed diabetes and became a semi invalid. He died in 1930. He is buried at Otaki.

Mr Frank Bennett - One of our older surveyors, of whom not much has been heard for some time, Mr. Frank Bennett, died at Otaki on 9th June, aged 77. We have no particulars. He was not a member of the Institute

Attended Otaki Convent School, his occupation was a woolclasser before World War I. He visited his English relatives while stationed overseas. He was badly wounded in France and had extensive facial surgery in England at the hands of Charles McIndoe, a pioneer in this work. He also had further operations at Rotorua when he returned. After the war he worked as a liftman at the Government Life Office, Wellington. After a few years, Hebden was taken home by his mother for a holiday and never returned to work. He lived with his mother in the family home in Otaki and remained there after she died. He never married.

Bennett Francis Hebden Reg No 41725 World War I Veteran. On August 20, 1978, at War Veterans' Home, Levin (formerly of Waeranga Road, Otaki) dearly loved brother of Vera (Mrs D. Corrigan, Paraparaumu Beach), Mary (Mrs McIntyre, Paraparaumu Beach), Arthur (Te Horo) and the late Joseph, Norman, Athol, William and Madge (Mrs Dillon); in his 91st year. May he rest in peace. Requiem Mass will be celebrated at St Mary's Catholic Church, Otaki, Today (Wednesday), August 22, 1978, at 11 am, thereafter to the Catholic Cemetery, Otaki.
