New Zealand Spectator and Cook's Strait Guardian 16th May 1846 shows
A good beginning of the season was made at Fyfe's station at Kaikoras last week by the capture of a whale, which is likely to turn out nine tons. A man of the name of Allwright belonging to Mr. Fitzherbert's station met with an unfortunate accident which from absence of medical aid terminated fatally. The deceased was a steady active man, and one of the best headsmen engaged in shore fisheries.

JAMES M'BETH begs to intimate that he has disposed of his Retail Grocery Business to Mr. F. Atchison, his late assistant, whom he recommends to the patronage of his Customers.
Confining his attention entirely to the Retail and Family trade, J. M'B. has no doubt will enable Mr. Atchison to supply them more efficiently and cheaply than hitherto.
The Nursery and Seed Business will still be carried on in adjoining premises, by James M'Beth; alterations will shortly be made to enable him to conduct the business more conveniently.

Deaths
Atchison - On 1st January, 1902, at his residence, Tinakori-road, Frederick Atchison, aged 73 years. Funeral, 3 p.m., To-morrow (Friday). Friends invited.

Mr. Frederick Atchison, who from 1862 to 1891 was an Inspector of Police — first for the Wellington and afterwards for the West Coast districts — died at his residence in Tinakori-road yesterday morning at the age of 73 years. He had suffered a severe illness of three months' duration, and the event was not wholly unexpected. Mr. Atchison was identified with Wellington in its early days. Arriving here in 1898? (sic), he went first to Canterbury, but soon returned and for many years he conducted a general store on what was known in those days as "the beach," Thorndon-quay. The building was only recently demolished. After his appointment as Inspector of Police he remained in Wellington until 1880, when he went to reside in Nelson to supervise its West Coast district. He retired in April, 1891, and has since lived quietly in Wellington. He leaves a widow, a son (Mr. F. Atchison, of the Survey Department) and a married daughter.

The death is announced from Wellington of ex-Police Inspector Atchison, aged 73 years. Inspector Atchison arrived in Wellington in 1848, and lived through some of the most memorable incidents in the city's history. In 1862 he was appointed Inspector of Police in the Wellington district. He was transferred to the Nelson force in 1880, and retired in 1891.

The remains of the late Mr. Frederick Atchison, who was formerly one of the Police Inspectors of the colony, were (sic) buried at Karori yesterday afternoon. The deceased had been well known during life, and the funeral was attended by many old settlers and prominent citizens. The Rev. Mr. Bartlett conducted the service at the grave side.
