The Wanganui Chronicle 6th September 1939 shows
Wedding
Gray - Greener
Ingestre Street Baptist Church, Wanganui, was the scene of a very pretty wedding, on the afternoon of July 29, the contracting parties being Doreen May, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. (Montie) Greener, Wanganui and Glassford Glover Walter, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gray, late of Marton. The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion by friends of the bride, with pink heather and rhododendrons. Pastor H. C. Smythe officiated at the ceremony and Miss Thelma Cornish presided at the organ.
The bride who was escorted by her father, made a dainty picture as she entered the church in her lovely frock of deep cream embossed satin. The long sleeves were rucked at the shoulders and the cuffs, which fell over the hands, were finished with a narrow edge of frilling, and the bodice featured a corselete front. The neck line was finished with frilling and buttons which started at the neckline and finished at the hem. The beautiful cut skirt fell in a long circular train, over which was worn a cream scalloped tulle veil with a halo of pearls and orange blossom. The bride wore a veil over her face on entering the church. Satin shoes were worn to match and she carried an arm spray of choice lapaperia, cyclamen and cream freezias and sprays of maidenhair fern.
The bridesmaids were Miss Joan Walshe, of Wellington, the bride's cousin, (chief), Miss Peggy Greener, sister of the bride and Miss Joyce Tattersall, friend of the bride. They wore becoming frocks of cyclamen moire taffeta, featuring the new heart-shaped neckline, and very full puff sleeved. The skirts, which were fitting at the waistline, fell into very full skirts. They wore silver shoes and silver Juliet caps trimmed with daphne and heather. They carried tulle muffs trimmed with sprays of cyclamen and silver ribbon.
Mr. Gordon Gray, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.
On leaving the church the bride was presented with a silver horseshoe by her small sister Pamela.
Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Rendezvous, where about 100 guests attended, the tables being attractively decorated with Iceland poppies.
To receive the guests, Mrs. Greener wore a navy pin-striped costume, a skunk fur necklet and navy velour hat trimmed with an ostrich feather and veil, navy shoes and gloves completed a charming ensemble and she carried a posy of scarlet cyclamas and flannel flowers. Mrs. Gray was attired in a black suit with a cherry and cream scarf and wore a shoulder spray of freezias and carried a posy of freezias and cherry cyclamens. Hat and gloves to torn were worn.
Many telegrams of good wishes were received and the customary toasts were honoured.
When the happy couple left for a motor tour of the North, the bride was wearing a navy striped costume, cream crepe de cline blouse and skunk stole (the gift of the bridegroom) and smart navy blue hat with veil. Her shoes, gloves and hat were to tone.
