He complained yesterday afternoon of feeling unwell, but it was not thought that his condition was serious, and his death was an unexpected shock to his police colleagues.

He was born on September 20, 1910, and joined the Force as a temporary constable in May 1937, being taken on permanently a year later. His whole service in the Force was spent in Wellington. He was for a time stationed at Mount Cook, and at the Central Station, and latterly was attached to the Criminal Registration Branch. He was married, with no children.
