Ames — On the 31st March, at Hill-street, Wellington, Sarah, wife of James Ames, aged 35 years.

The Evening Post 1st April 1881 shows
We regret to learn that Mr. James Ames, city valuer, has sustained a sad misfortune in the loss of his wife, who died yesterday, after a long and painful illness. Mr. Ames is the oldest officer of the Corporation, and, in respect to the memory of his wife, the Corporation flag was hoisted at half-mast yesterday, and the offices were closed this afternoon. The funeral took place at 2 o'clock this afternoon, and was attended by nearly all the officers of the Corporation and by a large number of citizens and private friends.
