James Charles Pye (Jamie) memories of his mum, Mary Pye nee Jorgensen
-
Mary settled with her parent in Nelson and Jamie remembers her living in a house with a grape orchid in glass houses out the back. Jamie is pretty sure that they owned the grape orchid. Jamie remembers two brothers Little John and Big John (one would be John Paul Robson Jorgensen, the other he is unsure who it was?) and two sisters Elsa and Edie. Jamie remembers visiting the old homestead and the grapes. He thinks Little John lived in the house there and worked at the Nelson central Hotel as a kitchen hand, he wasn't sure if he was married. Big John lived in Auckland and had two sons. Elsa never married and Edie married Harry Nesbit (Henry Robert Nesbit) and lived in Nelson. They had a daughter who had twins. There was a cousin called Estelle who stayed with Mary and got married to a motorbike rider in the late 50s. They skittered to Taupo where they ran a fish and chip shop at the start of the Taupo/Napier Highway. Gael Pye nee Stewart and Jamie called in to the fish and chips shop in the early 60s but it was closed.

Mary's religion didn't allow her to watch TV or drink. Jamie gave her a TV when his children were young which she said she didn't watch and she hid it in her wardrobe, but she brought it out for the grandchildren to watch. Elsa Kelly nee Pye remembers as a child watching it in the bedroom behind the garage.
Mary would watch Coronation Street when the grandchildren came around and then she became addicted and would watch it at other times too
