Tribute To Late R. S. A., Member
At the half-yearly meeting of the New Plymouth Returned Services Association, the president, Mr. N. J. Turner, paid tribute to the late Mr. John George Morgan, who died at the New Plymouth hospital on Tuesday at the age of 79 years.
Mr. Morgan was a keen member of the association and was a Boer War veteran. He was a former president of the New Plymouth South African War Veterans' association. As a mark of respect, R.S.A members stood for a minute's silence at the meeting.
Mr. Morgan was born on the West Coast of the South Island into a mining family of 21. After the Boer War, he became manager of the Nelson Gas Company. He married in the South Island and his wife predeceased him by four and a half years.
From Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. Morgan came to New Plymouth where he became manager of the New Plymouth Gas Company, Mr. Morgan has been living in semi-retirement for the last 30 years.
He was a prominent lodge member and belonged to both the Masonic and Druid orders.
Mr. Morgan is survived by his family of four sons and two daughters. They are Messrs Lewis Morgan (Taradale), John Morgan (Hastings), Keith Morgan (Auckland), Alec Morgan (Upper Hutt) and Mrs. Connie Manning (Dunedin) and Mrs Freda Perreaux (New Plymouth)
